9. What happens if polar ice caps melt?
If the polar ice caps melt, chunks of ice from frozen glaciers could enter the ocean and cause a slight increase in the ocean level. The rising temperature could also affect sea levels if the main ice covering the Antartic were to melt. Sea levels around the world could be impacted. It could also cause a change in the temperature of the sea.
Laurie,
ReplyDeleteI agree that the sea levels would increase and the ocean temperatures would fluctuate.
Have you ever seen The Day After Tomorrow? The fictional movie addresses some of these concerns, as well as some very interesting special effects.
Laurie,
ReplyDeleteI agree that there would be widespread flooding seen around the world if the polar ice caps were to melt. I had not previously considered the temperature of the sea changing much. It would surely impact most of marine life as well as the impact to human life on land.
I relly like the reference to the day after tomorrow movie. It wouold not be nearly as drastic as that but it would have some of the same effects. These factts would include like Laurie has stated that the sea levels and ocean temperatures would greatly fluctuate and cause a lot of devastation.
ReplyDeleteIt is said that if the ice caps were to melt and large chunks of the ice were to float off into the gulf stream that it will change the temperature of the oceans creating various weather. England would have extremely cold weather. I actually never saw the Day After Tomorrow. I never really wanted to see it. I'm not convinced yet that the polar ice caps will make an effect on the sea level, but the land glaciers would because the sea level is already displaced from the ice caps.
